What is the best time to visit Clos de Vougeot?
Spring and autumn
These are my two favorite seasons. The low light over the plots, fewer groups, guided tours are not full, and you can hear the guide. In April and October, the château is already or still on summer hours, from 9:30 to 18:00: see hours and tickets.
The harvest
It usually takes place in late August or September, on dates that vary each year depending on maturity. It is the only time you can see the clos at work, and it is worth the trip. The downside: estates are busy, cellar visits become rare, and some tours lighten their program. If your goal is to taste, come before or after instead.
Summer and winter
In July and August, small-group tours sell out several days in advance, and parking in the village fills up by mid-morning. Book early. In winter, the château is open from 10:00 to 17:00, the vines are pruned, and the rooms are empty: it is the season when the architecture is most visible. In late January, the Saint-Vincent tournante takes place in a different village each year and fills the entire Côte.
On Fridays and Saturdays, receptions are frequent: ticket sales until 16:30, closing at 17:00, kitchens and dormitory sometimes closed. A call to the château before you leave will clarify.
The day that fills an off-season
Eight hours and thirty minutes from Beaune, fourteen wines, and two cellars: it runs all year and often sells out. Rated 4.9 out of 311 reviews, maximum eight people, free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
